Children's books are a tough market for first time authors right now, especially for picture books. I think the best thing to do is get a literary agent. Keep writing and keep trying to get something published; articles in magazines, newspapers, anything. Also, check into what is selling right now. Is there a bigger market for biographies for early readers or mystery for middle schoolers? Find out what is selling and write to the need of the market and your work will be looked at more readily.
